Let me tell you about my neighbors…

We had a lot of excitement around here this past May.

We had some new neighbors move in.

Not really understanding the idea of “personal space,” they took up residence right outside our backdoor, on top of a shelving unit we have there.

They were cute, so we decided against getting an attorney to defend our property lines.

Before we knew it, they had not only moved in, but they had started a family…

Fast forward a couple of weeks, the babies were born.

I've never seen baby robins quite that close up, but let me tell you, they weren't actually all that cute.  Happily however, that quickly changed as their fluffy feathers grew in.

And before we knew it, the big day came when it was time for those babies to leave their nest.

The first few took off early one morning.  I missed most of the action, but my husband saw them go.

But there was one that just couldn't seem to get himself to take the leap.  He watched the others go before him, but he just kept pacing around the nest.

I wanted to see him take off, but I had a client, so I had to step away for an hour.

You can bet the first thing I did when I got off that call was to check on my little friend.

He was still there.

He just couldn't muster up the courage to take off.  Poor guy, he wanted to fly, but he just couldn't do it.

I stepped outside (to get the following photo).  Which was just enough of a nudge to get him over to the edge of the shelving unit.

And then he did it.

He took off.

A better photographer would've gotten a photo of that moment.  But all I could capture was the instant BEFORE he took flight.

But trust me, photo or no, HE DID IT!  And it was just SO DARN EXCITING for me to see!
